Having a Crack: How Sport, Mateship & Resilience Shape Our Boys
Share
At MURFF, we talk a lot about character — the kind that’s built through showing up, giving it everything, and staying grounded no matter the outcome. And this week, our young bloke lived that out in real time.
It started with a basketball carnival. A big few days — fast-paced games, pressure moments, and tired legs. The boys gave it their all. Made it to the semi-finals — no small feat. But the game didn’t go their way. It stung. A hard-fought loss that left hearts heavy and bodies sore. But it didn't finish there - we backed it up with semi-finals in our local comp, only to bow out. The most important thing was the personal growth and the ability to support each other.
And yet, they stood tall. They backed each other. They didn’t let the scoreboard define the journey. That’s the kind of resilience we’re proud of.
Then came the 1500m — a race that’s all about mental toughness. It’s not flashy. It’s not easy. It’s just you, your legs, your lungs, and the voice in your head telling you to stop. And still, our boy showed up. No podium finish, but a massive effort. A quiet kind of courage.
And today — we watched something special. Two teams, made up of mates who’ve trained, played, and grown together, battled it out on the court. Fierce competition, but full of respect. All heart. And when the buzzer sounded, there was really only one winner: the ones who showed up and had a crack.
Because that’s what sport teaches — how to fail with grace, how to support your mates, and how to push yourself when no one’s watching.
At MURFF, we don’t just celebrate wins. We celebrate the mindset it takes to compete, the grit it takes to keep going, and the mateship that makes all the difference along the way.
To every young Risk Taker out there — we see you.
Keep backing yourself. Keep showing up.
That’s what MURFF is made of.
