Why Good Role Models Matter for Young Blokes

In a world that’s constantly changing, one thing remains the same: the need for good role models. For young blokes, role models play an essential role in shaping the men they’ll become. They teach life lessons, offer guidance, and provide an example to aspire to—all through everyday actions.

Role models don’t have to fit a single mold. For us we believe that they come in many forms: a father figure, an older brother, a coach, a friend’s dad, or even someone outside the family circle who simply shows up and genuinely cares. These are the people who lead by example and help young guys navigate the challenges of growing up.

Our First MURFF Man: Rob

At MURFF, we celebrate the importance of role models by highlighting those who make a real difference. Our first MURFF Man, Rob, is a shining example of what it means to be a mentor and a positive influence.

Rob has been with us since day one, supporting the brand and living out the values we stand for. He’s not just a friend to MURFF; he’s someone we admire deeply. Through his actions and interactions, Rob shows that being a role model doesn’t require grand gestures—it’s about consistency, kindness, and genuine care.

For Rob, being a role model has been as rewarding for him as it has for us. As a dad to wonderful daughters, his bond with our MURFF is unique. It’s an opportunity to share laughs, life lessons, and the kind of wisdom that only comes from experience. He teaches by doing, showing the importance of respect, resilience, and a healthy dose of banter.

Why Role Models Matter

Good role models provide young men an opportunity to be be a GOOD HUMAN and with a foundation for:

  1. Character Building: By observing and interacting with positive role models, young men learn the importance of values like honesty, kindness, and perseverance.

  2. Guidance and Support: Role models offer a listening ear and a guiding hand when life gets tough. They help young blokes navigate challenges with perspective and grace.

  3. A Sense of Belonging: Relationships with role models create a sense of connection and belonging, reinforcing the idea that they are valued and supported.

  4. Expanding Horizons: Role models expose young men to new ideas and ways of thinking, helping them grow into well-rounded individuals.

Everyday Role Models

It’s important to remember that role models don’t need to be perfect. In fact, it’s through their imperfections that they teach some of life’s greatest lessons—how to handle failure, learn from mistakes, and keep moving forward. Whether it’s a family member, a teacher, or a friend, role models prove that inspiration often comes from the people closest to us.

As avid readers, one of our favourite reads is always a Maggie Dent book. She emphasises the significance of role models in children's development, stating, "The best way to inspire your children to develop into the kind of adults you dream of them becoming is to become the kind of adult you want them to be."

As a teacher of entrepreneurship and business, I’m deeply inspired by Maggie Dent’s emphasis on modeling kindness, empathy, and good character as parents. This resonates with me every day in the classroom, where teaching students the importance of empathy feels not just essential but truly heartwarming.

These insights underscore the profound impact that positive role models have on shaping the values and behaviors of young individuals.

At MURFF, we are super proud to have Rob as our first MURFF Man. He really does embody the spirit of mentorship and reminds us that everyday heroes can make the biggest impact. Here’s to Rob and to all the role models who shape the next generation with their unwavering support and guidance.

Let’s continue to celebrate and cherish the people who inspire us to be our best selves. Because in the end, it’s role models like Rob who help build a brighter future—one young bloke at a time. We are so fortunate that our MURFF has such positive role models like Rob.
